Hashim Nasr
Soudanese. Born in 1990 in Khartoum, Sudan.
Hashim Nasr is a self-taught visual artist and photographer currently based in Alexandria, Egypt. His practice combines surrealist and conceptual approaches, often blending portraiture with symbolic props, flowers, fabrics, and vibrant colors.
Hashim Nasr’s work explores themes of heritage, identity, memory, and the emotional complexities of exile, while also reflecting on issues of gender equality, diversity, ageing, and the subconscious. Deeply influenced by his Sudanese roots, he reimagines childhood memories through dreamlike visuals that reconnect him with his cultural background. His distinctive use of cones, the color blue, and natural elements evokes both nostalgia and surrealism.
Driven by an eagerness to create new stories, often using just his mobile phone, Nasr crafts imagery that merges editorial aesthetics with poetic reflections on the self and society, set against the backdrop of Sudan’s political and economic challenges.
